Chester Man Accused of Killing Wife

74-year-old charged with first-degree murder

A Chester Township man has been charged with killing his wife after an investigation at their Pleasant Hill Road home.

Leo Moran, 74, is accused of killing Charlotte Moran, also 74. He faces charges of first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Police first came to the home Thursday after getting a 7:53 a.m. call from a family member saying Charlotte Moran was dead, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.

Charlotte Moran was found deceased when authorities arrived, Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi said. Leo Moran was taken into custody and transported to the Chester Township Police Department. Bail has been set at $1 million cash only by Superior Court Judge David H. Ironson.

“This is a tragic incident and our heartfelt condolences are extended to the family members,” Bianchi said.

The Chester Township Police Department, along with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Section and the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at (973) 285-6200 or the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Stopper Program at (973) COPCALL.

I just past this scene. Lots of manpower on site. This is scary since I live just down the road from it.

This is so sad. These are my parent's neighbors. We have known them for a long time. R.I.P. Charlotte.
