Burglaries May Be Linked to Cleaning Service, Cops Say

Authorities in four municipalities probe alleged jewelry thefts from homes.

A series of residential burglaries in four municipalities in two counties may be linked to a cleaning service that worked in each of the homes, police said.

Several homes in Tewksbury Township have had jewelry stolen from them in late November, according to police in that township.

Authorities believe cleaning personnel may have removed the items from the homes, Sgt. Timothy Barlow said in a statement.

One Tewksbury Township resident told police $9,100 in jewelry was missing from their home, while another said a $2,500 ring was missing from their residence, according to a report by the Hunterdon County Democrat.

Barlow said jewelry taken was “available and accessible” in bedrooms.

Tewksbury Township, Washington Township, Chester Township and Mt. Olive Township police are all working on the investigation, as these alleged incidents may be connected to additional crimes in the other towns, Tewksbury Township police said.

Police Lt. Doug Compton confirmed Washington Township is involved in the investigation as well, but declined to comment further to avoid compromising the investigation.

Chester Township Lt. Tom Williver declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
