K-9 Unit Proves Worth in First Year

The dog, named Kobe, owned and trained by , has proved his worth.

Kobe completed his first full year on the job March 12, according to Washington Township Police. What he’s done in the first 12 months is nothing less than jaw-dropping.

The police department has released Kobe’s statistics, which include:

  • Assisted in 47 narcotic searches, yielding 17 pounds of marijuana, one ounce of methamphetamine, 1.3 ounces of cocaine, and four grams of heroin.
  • Responsible for seizing $7,347 in U.S. currency.
  • Conducted 46 tracks for missing persons and/or criminal suspects.
  • Completed four building searches for suspects, along with five area searches for suspects and/or evidence.
  • Assisted in 86 arrests, all without use of force.
  • Performed 25 demonstrations for various civic groups in Washington Township.

Kobe will remain on the force, and has been used by surrounding towns for investigations and tracking, the police department said.
