Long Valley Man Recovering After East Mill Road Crash

25-year-old driver was discharged from hospital day of accident, other driver still at Morristown Medical Center but listed in good condition.

Two men who needed medical attention after a two-car crash on East Mill Road last week are in better condition now, according to an Atlantic Health spokesperson.

Dean Hopewell, 25, of Long Valley and Joseph Rich, 65, of Chester collided on Friday afternoon on East Mill Road around 12:40 p.m. Both were taken to Morristown Medical Center, with Rich needing to be flown there by helicopter.

Hopewell was released the day of the crash, according to Atlantic Health, and while Rich is still in the hospital as of Tuesday, he is in good condition.

Rich was driving a pick-up truck when he struck Hopewell’s sedan, which was heading eastbound, police said. Hopewell sustained scrapes and injuries to his head, while Rich had chest and abdominal injuries.

Both drivers needed to be extracted from their vehicles at the scene of the crash. The road was closed for about an hour between Coleman Road and Bartley Road for an investigation.
