A Long Valley man was arrested and charged with burglary after police found him walking away from a Hackettstown business that was broken into early Monday morning, police said.
Hackettstown police responded to Bucci Barbershop at 212 Main St. at about 1:30 a.m. Monday morning in reference to a possible burglary in progress, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.
When police arrived, they found John Berardi, 49, who was walking away from the business, Tynan said. An investigation revealed Berardi broke into the business through the front door, but no proceeds were taken, Tynan said.
Berardi was also found to have a $338 municipal court traffic warrant out of Belleville, and a $1,064 municipal court traffic warrant out of Hackettstown.
He was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, and criminal trespassing. Berardi’s bail was set at $2,500. He was unable to post that bail and the warrants and was subsequently lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility.
