Long Valley Man Stole Condoms, Cigarettes, Cops Say

Resident accused of stealing items from Hackettstown gas station.

A Washington Township man was arrested after allegedly stealing cigarettes and condoms from a Hacketsttown gas station, police said.

Police responded to a burglary in progress at the Raceway gas station on Mountain Avenue Aug. 8 at about 5:40 a.m., Det. Darren Tynan said Monday. At the scene, officers were told the alleged thief headed toward the McDonald’s restaurant on Mountain Avenue, Tynan said.

A short time later, Mansfield Township police noticed a man discard a sweatshirt at a laundromat on Mountain Avenue and attempt to leave, Tynan said.

Mansfield Township police stopped the man, Samuel Grullat, 22, and arrested him in connection with the burglary, Tynan said.

An investigation revealed Grullat allegedly entered the island booth of the gas station through an unlocked window, and stole five packs of cigarettes and one pack of condoms, Tynan said. Grullat then left the booth through the same unlocked window before authorities arrived, Tynan said.

Grullat was charged with burglary by entering a structure and theft of a movable property. He was lodged in the Warren County Correctional facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.
