Morris County Man Convicted of Murdering Wife…

Man Accused of Stealing $700 in Goods From Target Store

Hackettstown man already incarcerated when charged with alleged crimes that took place in March, police say.

An oft-arrested Hackettstown man found himself in trouble yet again, this time in Washington Township after being accused of shoplifting from the Target on Rt. 46.

Erik Mitchell, 22, was charged with third degree shoplifting for stealing about $700 worth of merchandise from the retail store in March, Lt. Mark Niemynski said.

The alleged shoplifter was identified with the assistance of Rockaway Township Police who had previously arrested Mitchell for a similar incident, Niemynski said.

Mitchell is currently incarcerated in the Morris County Correctional Facility on unrelated charges, Niemynski said.

Mitchell was arrested on May 8 and charged by Hackettstown Police with using a stolen credit card to purchase a Visa gift card, which he then allegedly used for his personal purchases.

In the spring of 2013, Mitchell was arrested three times in Hackettstown in the span of three weeks on charges relating to possession of hypodermic needles to warrants.
