Was driving to pick my son up at BAC just after it happened and the officer was extremely nice and proactive in redirecting traffic. My first thought was down power lines...again. He put the kabosh on that immediately.

In a single vehicle accident like this, do the police obtain cell phone / text message logs from the driver's wireless carrier as a matter of routine in cases where the driver doesn't openly admit to having been looking at the cell phone at the time of the crash? I say this because (a) that is not exactly a "hot rod", so it seems unlikely that speed was a factor; (b) the road makes a bend to the left at the point whether the driver apparently went straight; and (c) there seem to be a LOT of single-vehicle accidents like this lately, and without knowing all the facts, it just seems to me that cell phone distraction is the most likely cause in most cases.

Or deer
Jon November 13, 2012 at 03:08 PM
Good point Heidi. That IS a very high deer area, that's for sure. It bears mentioning that it's almost always better to hit the brakes (if possible) and just hit a deer rather than swerving and risking hitting another vehicle or a stationary object. Regardless of the cause, I sure hope the driver is OK and recovers quickly and completely. I had meant to include that in my original post.

By the way Heidi, I checked out the scene, and didn't see any skid marks, which probably reduces the likelihood of it being a deer. Could have also been a mechanical failure in the car. Or a medical issue.. No point speculating. There are 100 possible causes. We'll just have to wait for the investigation results to get published.

Speaking of morons, I asked a question, I didn't make a suggestion. You obviously don't know how to read. How did you graduate from Elementary school? (Maybe you didn't.) And with that, I am signing off the Patch. This was my last post. Bye all, it's been nice. My IQ is 152, which has been sufficient so far in my life to prevent me from being called a moron. I don't need the abuse. And Kevin, yes, I am aware that your IQ is 160++, which is why you are officially recognized as an omnicient genius, and the supreme master, almighty ruler of the earth. I wish I could have been born as brilliant and wise as you, but I am just a lowly moronic peon, working like a slave every day to pay my lowly $115,000 annual income tax bill in order to line the pockets of wealthy executives like you who can afford to own McMansions and not even live in them. Try and figure out this puzzle if you can. The answer is two words. The first word is not down. The second word is not mine. Bye...

Wow Jon !!! A little touchy are we ??? Mr.Nedd is simply pointing out the answer to a silly question. Police have rules that must be followed, and contrary to the " herd's " grasp of what law enforcement is permitted to do, there are constitutional protections to securing individual privacy. You have an IQ of 152 ?? Wow - maybe there is a spoon company close by that could use some assistance in the Bending department.
esquire908 November 16, 2012 at 05:52 PM
In motor vehicle investigations, police can subpoena cell phone records in New Jersey, which include time stamped data records such as texting. Mr. Nedd doesn't understand Constitutional law with his knowledge, he creates it with his behavior.
