A Blairstown man accused of bilking a Washington Township resident out of $1,800 was arrested Wednesday after a nearly four-month investigation, Lt. Doug Compton said.
George Beecroft, 44, responded in June to an online advertisement posted by a township resident selling electronic equipment, Compton said. When Beecroft met the resident, a relationship was established, and the homeowner commissioned Beecroft for his services as a contractor, Compton said.
Beecroft was then paid $1,800 before services were completed, and never returned to the home, Compton said.
A warrant for his arrest was issued after the report was filed.
Through an undercover operation, Beecroft was solicited to speak with Washington Township Officers about the incident, and was subsequently arrested, Compton said.
Beecroft also had criminal warrants from Mansfield Township and White Township totaling $1,100. Beecroft was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility when he was unable to post the 10-percent option on the $7,500 bail imposed, Compton said.
