Man Struck, Killed By Train in Hackettstown

Man did not attempt to move out of the way of the train, an NJ Transit spokesman said.

A man was struck and killed by a westbound Montclair-Boonton line NJ Transit train Friday night in Hackettstown, an NJ Transit spokesman said.

According to eyewitness accounts, the man entered the tracks just east of the Willow Grove Street crossing in Hackettstown, positioned himself in front of the train and did not move out of its path Friday night at about 11 p.m., according to John Durso Jr., an NJ Transit spokesman.

NJ Transit police and medical examiners were on the scene and the man was pronounced dead just after 1 a.m., Durso said.

None of the seven passengers or any NJ Transit employees were injured in the accident, according to Durso.

The incident remains under investigation.

The man's identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
