Men Pulled Knives Over Dog Dispute, Cops Say

Individuals were intoxicated, charged with weapons offenses, according to police report.

Two intoxicated Hackettstown men were arrested Saturday morning after a dispute nearly led to a knife fight, police said.

Hackettstown Police arrived on the scene of Mountain Avenue shortly before 5:30 a.m. regarding a report of an armed individual involved in a dispute, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

Responding officers learned Sergio Uspango, 28, and Walter Wester, 25, were intoxicated and fighting over the attempted theft of Wester’s dog, Tynan said.

Both men, during the dispute, pulled a knife on each other, Tynan said.

No one was injured in the incident.

Uspango was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and possession of a weapon. He was unable to post the $7,500 bail and was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility.

Wester was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon and resisting arrest. He was unable to post the $10,000 bail and was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility.
