4 Sent to Hospital After Route 46 Crash in Hackettstown

Accident remains under investigation, charges pending in Tuesday morning incident.

There were multiple injuries in a six-car, chain reaction accident Tuesday morning at the intersection of Route 46 and Stiger Street.

According to Sgt. Darren Tynan, Marion Fisher, 46, of Hawthorne, set off the chain reaction when her vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Route 46 struck a 2002 Hyundai driven by Debra Smythe, 56, of Hackettstown, shortly after 11 a.m.

Smythe's vehicle, which was stopped in traffic, then struck a 2010 Chevy driven by Stella Landolfi, 37, of Independence Township.

Fisher's vehicle then continued eastbound on Route 46 and side-swiped a 2001 Volvo driven by Kristina Hentschel, 44, of Belvidere, and a 2010 Honda driven by Irene Cardell, 62, of Succasunna. Cardell's vehicle then struck a 2005 Pontiac driven by David Rosado Jr., 18, of Great Meadows, that was stuck with her.

Fisher complained of back pain, an 8-year-old boy in Smythe's vehicle complained of leg pain, Landolfi said she had back pain and Cardell complained of neck pain, Tynan said. All were transported to Hackettstown Regional Medical Center.

Route 46 was down to one lane between East Prospect and Stiger Street for approximately one hour. The accident is still under investigation and charges are still pending.

Assisting at the scene was the Hackettstown Fire Department, Hackettstown Fire Police, Hackettstown Rescue Squad and the Mansfield Twp. Rescue Squad.
