Teen Set Fire to Baby Car Seat at Park, Cops Say

Week-long investigation leads to 18-year-old male admitting to crime, police report.

A Glen Gardner teen was arrested and charged with criminal mischief after admitting to setting a baby’s car seat on fire at a nearby park this month, Washington Township Police said.

Patrol responded to a call for a small fire at Califon Island Park on July 10 and found a child’s car seat had been lit on fire, Lt. Mark Niemynski said. The car seat had been left in the playground area of the park when the mother and child went for a walk, Niemynski said.

At the time of the incident, no one was apprehended.
