Update: Schooley's Mtn. Open, Power Restored

Early morning tractor trailer accident shuts down Washington Township roadway.

Update, 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27: Schooley's Mountain Road was open in both directions Tuesday morning while a crew from Jersey Central Power & Light continued to fix a downed utility pole after a tractor trailer toppled over Monday morning. As of 9:30 a.m., the scene was clear of debris and workers, and the utility pole–and power–was restored.

Update, 4:45 p.m.: Schooley's Mountain Road between Camp Washington Road and Fairview Avenue is expected to be closed until 2 a.m., Washington Township Police Lt. Mark Niemynski said.

A tractor trailer toppled at the intersection of East Maple Avenue and the county road Monday morning, clipping a utility pole. That utility pole has been propped up by a Jersey Centeral Power & Light truck since early this morning to avoid power lines being pulled down with it, Niemynski said.

The truck has since been righted, and now is awaiting a tow, Niemynski said. The cargo–consisting of eight, 5,000-pound rolls of paper–has been removed from truck and needs to be loaded onto other trucks for removal.

The utility pole that needs to be replaced by JCP&L is near other underground utilities, and energy provider plans to work until the area is back in order, with an expected finish time of 2 a.m., Niemynski said.
