Two Trapped in Cars After Head-On Crash

Both drivers taken to hospital.

A head-on crash Sunday morning left two drivers trapped in their cars on Coleman road, Washington Township police said.

John G. Hemmings, 81, of Long Valley, and Elaine H. Roedel, 23, of Budd Lake had crashed head-on in the roadway shortly before 8:30 a.m., police said. Both drivers were trapped and suffering multiple non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The Long Valley Crash Team was able to extricate both using the Long Valley Virst Aid Squad's rescue truck and the equipment onboard.

Hemmings was transported by paramedics to Morristown Memorial Hospital for a head and arm injury. Roedel was transported by a Medivac helicopter to the hospital for a possible fracture to her ankle and possible internal inuries.

Elaine Roedel was charged with failure to keep right once the investigation was completed, police said.

Detective Thomas Falleni processed the scene. The Long Valley Fire Department also assisted with the crash. Califon Towing and Action Towing removed the vehicles from the roadway.
