Woman Hospitalized After Falling Down Schooley's Mtn. Park Embankment

Two hikers fell 20-feet down hill near county park's waterfall on July 4, Park Police report.

A 53-year-old woman needed to be hospitalized on July 4 after falling down an embankment at Schooley’s Mountain Park, according to Morris County Park Police.

Park police responded to the outdoor county facility at 4:10 p.m. on Independence Day after a report of two individuals who had fallen near the waterfalls, Det. Kyle Laauwe said.

When first responders arrived, they found the woman and a 53-year-old man, neither of whom are being identified by police, had fallen approximately 15-20 feet down a steel embankment off the trail they were hiking, Laauwe said.

Emergency personnel lowered the woman an additional 20 feet to a safe location, Laauwe said, and was transported to St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover.

The woman sustained head and ankle injuries, and the man had no significant injuries, Laauwe said.

The Washington Township Police Department, Long Valley First Aid Squad and Rescue Services Unit, Schooley’s Mountain Fire Tactical Rescue Team, Long Valley Fire Company, Hackettstown Regional Medical Center Ambulance and St. Clare’s Advanced Life Support Unit 517 all assisted at the scene.
