All You Need to Know About June Primary Here

Registered voters will punch ballots for committeeman up through presidential nominees.

The June Primary election is here, as polls will open Tuesday, June 5 at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. in Washington Township.

Locally, two Republican candidates on the Washington Township Committee–Mayor Ken Short and Vice Mayor Bill Roehrich–are running unopposed in the Primary, and will be unopposed in the November general election.

Unlike last year, when township Democrats for Joseph Keyes, the party has decided to stay out of the contest this year.

“As Democrats, we are focused on the critical issues facing the country, and are excited about concentrating our energy on the re-election of President Obama and Senator Menendez, electing Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula to the U.S. Congress, as well as supporting Truscha Quattrone's write-in campaign for Morris County Freeholder,” said Sally Hudson, the township’s Democratic Committee chairperson.

“As an organization and as individuals who care deeply about our community, we will continue to participate in projects that strengthen our community, such as Joe Keyes' participation on the Green Team, and to provide our support to local businesses and community events like the upcoming Green Festival.”

Keyes, however, is on the ballot running for a seat on the county's committee.

Registered voters will also be casting tallies for Republican presidential nominees, although candidate Mitt Romney has already secured enough delegates to win the party’s nomination.

June 5 also happens to be the final day for school board candidates to file for a place on the ballot with the county. With and school districts moving their elections to November, candidates must now go above the local administration to be in the election.
