Committee to Discuss Solar Project at Middle School

Mayor to relay information to colleagues about school advisory group.

The Washington Township Committee’s work session meeting scheduled for Wednesday will broach some weighty topics, according to the agenda.

Discussion topics include Mayor Ken Short’s synopsis and interaction with the West Morris Education Advisory Committee. Short will report to the committee the options agreed upon by the advisory group, and if the local governing body is prepared to spend $10,000 for a feasibility study.

The committee will also discuss where it stands with talks regarding a land swap with the Washington Township School District. The school district has approached the township about leasing nearly 2.5 acres of land situated near the to be used for solar panels. A solar panel project would be paid for by the county.

Also up for discussion is where the bid process is for Washington Township’s newest fire truck, approved by the governing body earlier this year under its capital improvement budget.

The committee will also hear a presentation from Steve Zaikowski about Bare Root Planting and a Tree Farm in the township. The presentation will be first up in the work session’s list of topics.
