Green Team Eyes Second E-Waste Disposal Event

Committee also receives new grant.

On the heels of an incredibly successful e-waste disposal event on Saturday, May 14, conducted by the Washington Township Green Team, the Ad Hoc committee has begun preparations to hold another event tentatively scheduled for the fall.

The Green Team worked in conjunction with a recycling company called Advanced Recovery, set up a drop-off point at the Department of Public Works on Rock Road, and saw residents fill two 30-foot trailers with old, unused electronics.

At its June 8 regular meeting, the committee discussed holding a similar event tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The committee also announced it would hold another paper shredding event on Oct. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Due to traffic concerns that were raised during the e-waste disposal event, the committee is considering moving the events to a different location altogether.

The committee also announced it has received an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant that will allow for the direct installation of energy-conserving lighting and sensors in many township-owned buildings, including the township's two DPW buildings, the Washington Township Senior Center, the Washington Township Police Department, and the township's municipal building.

The next Green Team meeting will be held Wednesday, July 13 at 6 p.m. at the municipal building.
