Major Twp. Committee Meeting Monday Night

Here's five things you should know about the governing body's final meeting of 2011.

It’s the start of another workweek (and the last week of school in 2011), so let’s perk up and get moving. We’re going to take a different turn with our 5 Things column today, and give you five items you should know about tonight’s Township Committee meeting.

You Need to Know About a New Police Lt.: The Washington Township Committee will officially promote and swear in Sgt. Doug Compton as the newest lieutenant. He’ll join Lt. Art Adams and Lt. Mark Niemynski in the ranks. Compton has been with the department for 18 years and is currently serving as the traffic sergeant.

You Need to Know About The End of a Term: This meeting will mark committeeman and Vice Mayor Jim Harmon’s last meeting on the governing body. this year so he could spend more time with his family and serve in other roles in the community.

You Need to Know About a Resolution: The committee will take action on a resolution proposed at last Wednesday’s work session to decrease the hours of two IT department members. The employees are the only two in the municipality still working 40-hour workweeks, whereas everyone else is working 35.

You Need to Know It’s Public: Turnout at government meetings is often low (), but residents are always wanting to know what takes place. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. All residents are encouraged to attend.

You Need to Know It’s The Last One: Of 2011, that is. The next township committee meeting will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. at the . This will be the reorganization meeting where committeeman-elect Tracy Tobin will be sworn in, a vote for mayor and vice mayor will take place, and scheduling for the rest of the year’s meetings will occur.
