Preview: Twp. Committee Work Session to Review K-9 Unit, Employee Rate

The monthly meeting will be held Wednesday at the municipal building.

On Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. the Washington Township Committee will hold its monthly work session at the , five days ahead of its regular meeting, set for Monday, Feb. 21.

This month’s work session will see a presentation by officer . The town’s police department proposed the idea of adding a K-9 unit to the force at its .

All Kobe’s expenses have been accounted for through donations and funds from the Policeman’s Benevolence Association, and according to Township Clerk Debbie Burd, the township’s current insurance policy would cover the canine.

According to Cecere, Kobe’s training would help in police searches of narcotics, missing persons and building searches.

Township employee rates

Also on the agenda (attached to this article as a .pdf) is the continuing matter of rates for Township Engineer Leon Hall, who is a member of Denzler & Associates Engineering Firm. 

Hall’s current hourly rate of $140 increased 18 percent from 2009 to 2010. Hall is looking to have his rate remain flat for 2011.

Township Committeeman Dave Kennedy from other towns and what those municipalities are paying their engineers, and possibly renegotiate Hall’s rate.

The committee will continue its discussion of the matter and take the next steps at the work session. The meeting is open to the public.
