Repairs Will Stunt Mtn. Traffic For 4 Weeks

Guardrail fixes expected to begin on Schooley's Mountain Road June 4.

A portion of Schooley’s Mountain Road, between Camp Washington Road and Big Turn, will be down to one lane for four to six weeks for embankment repairs, according to .

The project start date is estimated to be June 4, and work hours will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The roadway will be down to one lane and traffic will flow one direction at a time. 

Sections of the guardrails on the embankment have been suspended in air since major . In a six-week span during that time, Long Valley succumbed to the effects of and Tropical Storm Lee.

The work is being completed by H&G Construction from Ridgewood, New Jersey under the direction of the Morris County Department of Public Works Division of Engineering.

“The problem is more extensive than we thought,” Hammond said to the committee. “Looking over the side of the road; it’s a hell of a drop-off.”
