School Advisory Group Cancels Thursday Meeting

Lack of mayors forces rescheduling of monthly session.

The monthly meeting of the mayors and board of education representatives from Washington Township, the Chesters and Mendhams scheduled for Aug. 16 in Mendham Township has been canceled, according to the committee's chairperson Christine Gorski.

Two of the five mayors–Washington Township's Ken Short and Chester Township's Bill Cogger–will be unavailable for the meeting, and Gorski said she was advised the session would need to be rescheduled. 

A new time and date for the meeting is still being organized, she said.

  • One mega K-12 school district, encompassing all five towns.
  • One K-12 district for Washington Township, and a K-12 district for the Chesters and Mendhams
  • One K-12 district for Washington Township, and a high school for the Chesters and Mendhams, with K-8 districts remaining in tact.

Heading into the meeting, three of the towns–Washington Township, Chester Township, and Mendham Borough–all supported exploring all three options for structure change in the study. and agreed they would only fund a study with two options, excluding the mega K-12 district choice.
