Should Washington Twp. Be Part of Regional Schools Study?

Four other towns will consider changing high school district without Washington Township's input.

Talks of how the West Morris Regional High School District should be structured and paid for have been batted around for decades.

Those talks, however, have moved along recently as the new generation of councilpersons and committee members are combining efforts to see what structure would be best for the district.

Mendham Township, Mendham Borough, Chester Township, and Chester Borough governments have all agreed to an RFP – Request for Proposal – that would commission an analyst to conduct a feasibility study on the regional school district.

While Washington Township sends students to half of the district's school system, the town isn't part of the group. Why?

They weren't asked.

The study will outline the cost effectiveness of having a consolidated K-12 for the four towns; keeping the set up as it is (Mendham K8, Mendham Township K8, Chester K8, plus half the regional high school district); or keeping the elementary schools the same, but creating a single district for the 9-12 Mendham High School.

Two of those three options would drastically impact Washington Township.

So, do you think your township should have been part of this feasibility study? Let us know in the comments section!
