Twp. Quarterly Tax Grace Period Ends Nov. 12

Residents without power may be late to submit.

With a due date of Nov. 1, Washington Township residents are required to pay their fourth quarter property taxes, but for some, it hasn't been as simple as sending a check to the tax collector's office.

The municipal building was closed for the entire week of Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 due to the impact of Hurricane Sandy. Residents were unable to access any of the town's municipal offices until Monday, Nov. 5.

The grace period, however, lasts until Monday, Nov. 12 for residents, according to tax collector Amy Monohan.

The delinquent interest rate is 8-percent on the first $1,500 and 18-percent on the remainder, according to the township's website. If payment is made after the grace period, please contact the tax office for the correct amount of interest penalties due. A penalty of 6-percent will be charged on any delinquency in excess of $10,000 if not paid by the end of the fiscal year, the website says.

Payments can be made in person or by mail at 43 Schooley's Mountain Road, Long Valley, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
