Twp. to Consider Internet For Senior Center

Golden agers looking to learn more about technology age.

Looking to take the next steps into the technology age, Washington Township seniors are hoping to have a wireless Internet connection set up at the at .

But since the building belongs to, and is funded by the township, it would be a community improvement expense added to the town’s budget, according to the township committee at its Wednesday, April 11 work session meeting.

Mayor Ken Short recommended the center try and pull from the Library’s WiFi signal to cut additional costs to the township.

“The library has told me that it is at its capacity for WiFi capabilities,” Tobin said. “And they are willing to send up employees to help the seniors learn how to use the computers and Internet.”

The township is currently serviced by CenturyLink for its Internet access at the municipal building, which costs $110 per month, and also at the police department, which costs $90 per month, Short said.

Tobin said the center could be serviced for somewhere between $40 and $86 per month, but was still seeking proposals.

The committee will review the future prices and consider the idea, Short said, if the center is unable to use the library’s utilities.
