Video: Long Valley's Nordstrom To Seek Re-Election as Freeholder

Former Washington Township mayor seeks fifth consecutive term for county government.

Margaret Nordstrom, former mayor of Washington Township and Morris County Freeholder since 1999, announced her candidacy for re-election on Tuesday, March 1 at the Morris County Republican Headquarters in Morristown.

Joined by her fellow freeholders, Washington Township mayor Ken Short, members of the public, Republic Party members and members of local Tea Party organizations, Nordstrom spoke about encouraging businesses to stay in Morris County, highlighting Honeywell as an example of a corporation that was considering leaving the state until the Morris County Freeholders and ultimately Gov. Chris Christie stepped in.

She also discussed a recent policy change at the County College of Morris which will allow illegal immigrants to take classes at the same tuition rates as in-county students. Her position–which she says the rest of the freeholders share–is that while illegal immigrants should be allowed to attend the community college, they should have to pay out-of-state tuition.

Nordstrom is freeholder liaison to Administration and Finance, which includes the Clerk of the Freeholder Board, the County Administrator’s Office, the Department of Finance and the County Clerk’s Office. She is also a member of the Board of School Estimate for the County College of Morris and the Morris County School of Technology.

Nordstrom's campaign slogan is "Smaller, smarter government.”
