What's become a tradition at Old Farmers Road School continued this year as students throughout the student body joined with members of the American Veterans Association of Washington Township to raise the flag.

The event was held Friday outside of the elementary school with songs and saluting Old Glory.

Members of the AVAWT make two stops at the school annually, on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, to honor the fallen and those who served with students in the school.

Thank you to the teachers and administrator at OFRS for teaching the students the meaning behind Memorial and Veterans Days and to the members of the Am Vets for taking the time and making the effort to show the students the reality behind words in a book. My greatest prayer and wish would be for an end to strife and war, but in the meantime I am very proud of our community and the various traditions that keep a spirit of thankfulness and remembrance alive.
