Long Valley Middle School Students Show Talents Through a Lens

Annual photo contest sees 19 participants from grades six through eight.

The Long Valley Junior Women's Club hosted its 12th Annual Photography Contest for Long Valley Middle School students during the month of March to celebrate Youth Art Month, according to a press release from the organization.

Each participant submitted up to three photos to be entered into six categories.  There were a total of 19 students who submitted 46 photos. 

The winners are: Action (first) Sean Grund, (second) Rebeca Frisk.  Nature; (first) Sean Grund, (second) Ella Dixon, (third) Madeleine Edens.   Still Life; (first) Alexa Mataszynski, (second) Ella Dixon, (third) Katie Peter.  Portraits; (first) Sean Grund, (second) Julie Kluse, (third) Sarah Pollack.  Pets; (first) Caitlin Scheer, (second) Rebeca Frisk, (third) Lindsey Knopf.  Landscape; (first) Alexa Mataszynski, (second) Ella Dixon, (third) Skylar Migliaccio.

And for Best Overall: Sean Grund took the Grand Prize donated by Chester Camera. 

The judges were Jean Fordyce of Fordyce Studios in Long Valley, and Kelly Weinert and Denise Smith of the Long Valley Junior Women’s Club, the press release said.

An awards ceremony was held in the Long Valley Middle School Learning Center on March 25, where each winner received a donated prize.  The prizes were donated by Applebee’s in Hackettstown, Clearview Cinema in Mansfield, in Long Valley and the Long Valley Junior Women’s Club. 

The event would not have been possible without the participation of the Long Valley Middle School staff: Librarian Carol Samples, Art teachers Cindy Clark and Oksana Klapischak, Principal Mark Ippolito and Secretary Roseann Lehmann, according to the press release.

The Long Valley Junior Women’s Club is a nonprofit organization that meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm at the Schooley’s Mountain Firehouse.  New members are always welcome.
