Regional Board OKs New District Supervisors

Administrative shuffle part of statewide changes.

Falling designed to restructure school administrations, the West Morris Regional Board of Education approved the establishment of four new positions at its regular meeting.

Doing away with the district’s lead teacher position, and the board established District Supervisor positions in the subjects of English, math, science and history.

The changes will take effect July 1.

Pendergrast said earlier this year that that having one district supervisor for the subjects would allow better coordination between the district’s two high schools.

The changes will save about $100,000 because of the elimination of the lead teacher positions, Pendergrast said.

The following district teachers have been named supervisors:

  • English: Kim Helsel (Mendham High School)
  • History: Roseanne Lichatin (West Morris Central High School)
  • Math: Barbara Pagnotta (Mendham High School)
  • Science: Margaret Sheldon (West Morris Central High School)

All teachers have had their pay elevated to $120,000, and have been approved to one-year contracts.

The four faculty members were also lead teachers in their respective disciplines prior to the board’s vote. Pendergrast held interviews for the positions and hired the most qualified candidates put before him, he said.

Another change expected to take place, as voted on by the board earlier this year, is the creation of a new position, assistant superintendent. No one has been named to the post yet.
