School Board Seeking Candidates After Member Abruptly Resigns

The Washington Township School district is looking for candidates to fill an open seat on the K-8 Board of Education after one of its members recently resigned.

Walt Cullen, whose three-year term was set to expire at the end of 2014, submitted his letter of resignation due to personal reasons at the board’s most recent meeting on June 3, according to meeting minutes.

The district is now seeking candidates for an open board seat. Candidates for the board must be a United States citizen; at least 18-years-old; able to read and write; a resident of Washington Township for at least one year prior to being appointed; not disqualified to vote; and be a registered Washington Township voter.

Board members cannot be directly or indirectly involved in any contract or claim against the board.

Anyone interested in filling the seat must submit a letter expressing his or her interest in the position and provide any information that “may assist the Board in making a decision,” according to a statement from the board.

Letters of interest should be submitted by 3 p.m. Friday, June 27 to Liz George, Business Administrator/Board Secretary at 53 West Mill Road, Long Valley, NJ 07853.
