3 Bullets Found on Sidewalk at Flocktown-Kossmann School

The owner of the bullets has been identified and school was under shelter-in-place for period of time Monday morning.

Flocktown-Kossmann Elementary School was back to normal Monday afternoon after a shelter-in-place was issued when three bullets were found on a nearby sidewalk earlier in the day.

The bullets were found along the sidewalk connecting the two schools, according to a Honeywell Alert released shortly before 12:30 p.m. Monday.

The owner of the bullets was also identified and "police and school officials have responded accordingly," according to the alert. No further information on the person's identity was immediately released.

"Everyone is fine and the school day has returned to normal here at the Flocktown-Kossmann campus," the alert read. "Law enforcement officials have completed their investigation and have resolved the matter at hand."

Later in the day, Superintendent Jeff Mohre sent a follow-up message to the school community to reiterate that all was clear and safe at the schools, and that the Washington Township Police Department had concluded its investigation.

Mohre's letter also took a moment to connect with parents about the importance of keeping all guns and ammunition safe in the home.

"This morning’s incident affords me the opportunity to emphasize with our adult community the importance of keeping all weapons and weapon-related paraphernalia under lock and key at ALL times," the message stated.

The district sent out an initial alert Monday morning to let families of students know about the procedure, but assured the community there was no imminent danger and that students and faculty were safe.

The two-building campus is home to grades kindergarten through five.

This is the second occurrence of a stray bullet found near a school in recent weeks, as Hackettstown Middle School was placed on lockdown when a student found a bullet near that building.

Police Chief Michael Bailey said more information would become available Tuesday morning.
