Transformer Explodes, Knocks Out Power to West Morris Central

Students will be dismissed at normal time, principal says.

Electricity is gone at West Morris Central High School Wednesday afternoon after a transformer on Bartley Road exploded, according to Principal Steve Ryan.

Students are safe and no one was injured when the incident occurred, Ryan said. The school is operating on a backup generator, which is providing heat, water and emergency needs.

School will still be dismissed at normal time, Ryan said, and crews from utility provider Jersey Central Power & Light are en route to fix the problem. No one from the school was put at risk by the problematic transformer, Ryan said.

Bartley Road has not been closed because of the incident.

Wednesday's incident follows more than two and-a-half weeks of erratic bell schedules, where the high school was forced to close four days and use three delayed openings due to inclement weather.
