West Morris Graduates Awarded Scholarships from Lioness Club

At Mendham, Papili is an International Baccalaureate candidate in English, French, Math and History. She is a Peer Leader, PALS Leader, participant in Relay for Life and Vice President of Embracing History Mendham Branch, which is a non-profit organization that visits nursing homes and documents stories (history of the area). As a Peace Project Club member she mentors middle school students on bullying and high school issues.

She holds many records in Track and Field. She has been the captain of her track team and holds the state sectional champion-ship in 400m and 400 hurdles, 4x400 relay, and placed 10th in the state in the 400m.  She is the Morris County record holder in the 3x400 hurdle relay. She placed first team All County, First Team All Area, First Team All Conference and third team New Jersey Group3.

Her community activities includes her church  where she was a bible camp counselor, attended Antioch Church retreats, and was an active fundraiser for Relay For Life. She has worked with the track teams in Chester as a coach and during the summer with members of the high school volleyball team organized a summer clinic for middle school girls interested in developing volleyball skills.  In addition to her service to school and community she has worked as a cashier at Pleasant Pools and Yaphoric.  

She loves to bake, play guitar and ride the roller coasters.

Papili will be attending Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., in the fall where she will major in Civil Engineering. 

As a result of his mom’s advice to “get involved,” Mule has been very active at Central. Jake has taken International Baccalaureate and Advance Placement course work in Calculus, Physics, Government, English and French. He has been on the high honor roll in grades 9—12, a member of the French Honor Society where he is treasurer, and the National Honor Society where he serves as Vice President, the History Club and an active participant in the Math League. 

As a very active member of the Music Department at Central he has been a member of the Concert Band and Marching Band, serving as section leader. He is most proud of being chosen Drum Major of the marching band in his senior year, and choir. He especially enjoyed the choir’s trip to the Bahamas where they performed for the passengers.  For the school musicals he served in the pit band, and work as a member of the stage crew.  He was cofounder of the pep band that played at basketball games. 

As an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, he served as a sixth grade Sunday school teacher, directed the church Christmas pageant, and played the tuba at Easter services.  He enjoyed being in charge of the Bible Experience Station at Trinity Vacation Bible School. 

Mule has participated in trips to local food banks, missions to help the homeless in Washington D.C., fundraising for malnourished children in Africa, and several other fund raising activities. As a member of the Appalachian Service Project he helped the people there by working with his peers in making their homes warmer, safer and drier. Not only did he help build ramps and roofs for the community but learned so much from them and saw how so little could make them so happy.  He plans to continue working for ASP after graduation. 

Mule will be attending the University of Connecticut.
