Patriots Can't Withstand 7-Run Seventh

Somerset holds brief lead before Bridgeport's outburst.

The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the 10-4, at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night.

Bridgeport jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run by Luis Lopez (5).

The Bluefish added a run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Lopez to make the score 2-0.

The Patriots got on the board in the bottom of the fourth after Dan DeGeorge led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. Freddie Bynum then scored on a fielder’s choice by Yunesky Sanchez to even the score at two.

An RBI single by Jeff Nettles in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and gave Somerset a 3-2 advantage.

The Bluefish wasted no time taking the lead with seven runs in the top of the seventh inning, highlighted by a two run double by Prentice Redman to make the score 9-3.

Bynum drove a solo home run (2) over the left field wall to lead off the eighth for the Patriots to cut the lead to 9-4.

The Bluefish added a run in the ninth inning on an RBI single by James Simmons for the 10-4 final.

Bridgeport reliever Juan Rincon (1-0) got the win after allowing a run in an inning of work.  Patriots reliever Derell McCall (2-4) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits while retiring two batters.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season will continue at home on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The game features a postgame fireworks show and baseball caps for the first 1,500 fans.
