Senior pitchers each had earned run averages below one, report says.

The pitching combination of seniors Matt Klein and Andrew Politi gave West Morris Central a great opportunity to win games each time the hurlers took the mound in the 2014 campaign.

Because of that, both were named to the All-Daily Record Baseball Team, according to the newspaper’s website, dailyrecord.com.

Klein, a lefty, ended the season with a 6-1 record and a more-than-impressive .88 earned run average, the report said. In those numbers were four shutouts as well.

Politi, who garnered statewide attention early in the season for throwing a no-hitter – but losing – was known for his fastball that reached high-80s. His 4-4 record came with a 0.95 earned run average, the report said, but in those four loses, the righty only surrendered two runs. Most impressively, he struck out 66 batters while walking only 18, the report said.
