3 Central Athletes Sign to Compete at Collegiate Level

Basketball, softball players and champion horseback rider sign letters of intent to compete at next level.

It doesn’t matter the sport, West Morris Central’s athletes have always been among the best.

On Thursday, Nov. 13, three female student-athletes signed letters of intent to take their talents to the next level, playing for teams at the collegiate level in three different sports.

Allison McCourt, one of the driving forces behind the Wolfpack softball team’s sectional championship in 2013, will be taking at-bats at Jacksonville University after graduating Central in 2014.

McCourt plans to major in marine science while studying at Jacksonville University, and currently plays softball with the traveling New Jersey Inferno. Through three seasons with the Wolfpack, McCourt has compiled 115 hits with a batting average of .447, 39 RBIs, 81 runs scored, and 60 stolen bases. Her on base percentage is a staggering .564.

Kristen Mohr will be hitting a different kind of field, and this one includes horses.

The West Morris Central senior has been named to the Texas A&M Equestrian Team, and will be majoring in Engineering at the southern schools.

Kristen’s sister Lindsay, also a Central grad, is the owner of Win Mohr Stables in Bedminster, New Jersey, and trains her younger sister. Kristen Mohr also practices with Stacia Madden of Beacon Hill Show Stables in Colts Neck, New Jersey.

Mohr has plenty of experience and wins under her belt, taking home titles as Washington International Horse Show Children Hunter Champion, Ronnie Mutch National Equitation Award, Reserve Champion at Devon and Hampton Classic along with taking sixth place in the 2011 Pessoa Medal Finals.

Finally, with basketball season just around the corner, Brielle Kelly made her next stop official on Thursday as well.

Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pennsylvania will welcome Kelly on the team in 2014 after a meeting with the coaches and staff brought a “connection” between the two sides.

Kelly will major in nursing while attending school. Through three years of high school play, Kelly is averaging 18 points per game, 9 rebounds per game, and was awarded First Team All Daily Record, First Team Observer Tribune, First Team NJAC, First Team All-County Tournament Team, and MSG honorable mention.

Kelly is on target to reach 1,000 career points this season, and played on ESPN National TV at the Disney Wide World of Sports Basketball Invitational over the summer.
