Athlete of the Week: Miller's Prep Now Performance

Senior runner set personal bests at recent meet.

West Morris Central's Girls' Cross Country captain Kristin Miller has been named Long Valley Patch's Athlete of the Week for her recent performance at the Randolph Invitational.

Miller ran a 20:50 at the meet in Freedom Park, a personal best by three minutes on that course, and two minutes better than any of her previous 5k times. Miller ran more than 40 miles per week over the summer to prepare for the 2011 season.

The 17-year-old senior enjoys math and physics in the classroom, and treats her teammates like family.

What are your hopes for the team this year?
I would love for the team to make it back to Groups again this year as we did last year. We have a lot of talent on the team and I definitely think we are competitive enough to reach this goal. We'll have to continue to run together as a strong pack like we did at the Randolph Invitational last week.

What do you like best about running for WMC?
My favorite things about running for WMC are my coach and teammates. Coach Jay (Herrigel) is an excellent coach who always inspires the team and pushes us to reach our full potential. My teammates also encourage me to do my best. We are all good friends, so the atmosphere on the team is always positive and fun even though we work hard.

Favorite things to do off the track?
I enjoy reading, going to the beach, and spending time with my family and friends.

Plans for college? Possibly running at the next level?
I have not decided on a particular college yet, so I am unsure whether I will run for a school or simply on my own. I definitely want to continue to run for the rest of my life, though.
