Central Swimmers End Season With a Splash

Personal bests and notches in the win column highlight the 2012-13 season finale.

Wouldn’t it be gratifying for the swim team to close out the season with a win?

The West Morris Central girls team did just that against Madison High School. While the margin of victory was not quite as large, it was convincing enough to show that the team had grown more mature and experienced than at the start of the season.

First, for team performance and lots of points, the girls won the 200-meter Medley relay and 200-meter Free relay races.

Secondly, the girls pretty much swept all the individual races. Freshman Kowalewski who just came off the disability list quickly re-established herself by taking first place in the 200 meters and 100 meters Free. Senior Hofmann finished third in the 200 meters Free. Freshman Castaneda cruised to first place in the 200 meters IM and 500 meters Free. Senior S. Beatrice claimed third place in the 500 meters Free. Senior Shannon contributed points finishing third in the 200 meters IM and second in the 100 meters Breast.

Senior Lamperti stormed to first in the 50 meters Free and third in the 100 meters Free. Senior Ungemach upping her record by finishing first in both the 100 meters Fly and 100 meters back. To round out WMC dominance in the 100 meters Fly, Freshman Liahkim and Circelli took second and third place, respectively. The final scores were Madison 75 to Central 95.

A week prior, the boys finished their season also with a win against Parsippany Hills High School.

Much like the girls team, the boys also won the 200 meters Medley relay and 200 meters Free relay. And while it was not a sweep in the individual races, there was plenty of top finishes to garner points for the team.

Junior Schommer took care of the 200 meters Free and the 400 meters Free.  Senior Tamburrino finished second in the 400 meters Free. Freshman Ambrose took second in the 200 meters IM but came first in the 100 meters Back. Junior Antonucci took second in the 100 meters Back.

WMC totally dominated the 100 meters Breast stroke with Junior Donnelly, Senior Farnsworth and Junior Dlouhy finishing in the top three spots.  Third place finishers are Senior Holm in the 200 meters IM, Junior Donnelly in the 50 meters Free, Freshman Hughes in the 100 meters Fly and Senior Waters in the 100 meters Free. The final scores were Parsippany Hills 74 to Central 95.

Congratulations to the following WMC swimmers who earned their personal best at both meets against Parsippany Hills and Madison high schools:

The number of swimmers who continued to improve on their respective personal records at the end of the season spoke volumes to the level of commitment from both athletes and the coaching staff to the sport. One would expect that both girls and boys teams to post even better stats next season as the team continues to mature and gain meet experience.
