Fencers Victorious in Final Dual Meet of 2013

Boys, girls teams end season on high note against Morristown.

The West Morris Central High School fencing team took advantage of its final dual meet of the season against Morristown, grabbing wins on both sides.

Heading into the final bout of the night, junior Stephanie Egleston was tasked with pulling out a victory with the teams tied 13 all. Her 5-2 defeat was not only a win for her, but for the team, pulling out the 14-13 victory.

Girls’ fencers with wins at Morristown included senior sabre Katie Dickson, 1-2; junior sabre Liz Reynolds, 2-1; sophomore sabre Hasoni Austin, 2-1; junior foil Erin Dietsche, 3-0; junior foil Anastasia Enriquez, 2-1; freshman foil Brooke Solsky, 1-1; senior epee Ally Ray, 1-2; junior epee Stephanie Egleston, 1-2; sophomore epee Kelly Reibel, 1-2.

The boys had the same fortune as the girls, and were able to succeed without the drama, winning 19-8. Central fencers with wins for the evening include senior sabre Connor Gruby, 2-0; senior sabre Rob Siedlecki, 1-1; senior sabre Hugh Geraghty, 1-0; senior foil Aidan Burn, 3-0; senior foil Michael Berezny, 3-0; sophomore foil Will Cottiss, 2-0; senior epee Nick Klaassen, 1-1; senior epee David Sherer, 2-0; senior epee Tim Salmon, 3-0; senior epee Joey Orlandi, 1-0.

Previous to the Morristown match, the teams split a dual meet while hosting Hunterdon Central. The boys won in dramatic fashion, with senior Tim Salmon pulling out a last bout victory for the team 5-1. Central grabbed the victory by a score of 14-13.

The ladies didn’t fare as well, but put up a valiant effort despite being without senior Sabre Katie Dickson. The team lost 12-15.

Junior Erin Dietsche has qualified to fence at the NJSIAA Individual State Championships at Montgomery High School on March 3rd. This is Dietsche’s second consecutive year qualifying for the tournament.
