Fencing Teams See Mixed Results in First Meet

Boys open season with three-point victory, girls fall at Morris Hills.

While January marks the start of the new year, it also marked the beginning of another West Morris Central fencing season, as the boys and girls teams competed at Morris Hills High School Friday, Jan. 4.

The teams saw mixed results, with the boys team–led by senior captains Tim Salmon and Mike Berezny–winning its match by a score of 15-12. Prior to the season, Salmon earned his D2012 rating in epee at the Cobra Open in Jersey City.

On the other side, the girls team fell by a score of 8-19, but were highlighted by junior captain Erin Dietsche going undefeated in all three of her bouts. Dietsche earned her E2012 rating at a Division 3 Mixed Foil Fencing Tournament in November.
