The pair of seniors were major parts of the 2012 Wolfpack's championship run. Gutowski started as the team's quarterback for three consecutive years, while Caruso played tailback and defensive back the last two seasons.

The last time both players stepped on the field was during the team's state title win in December. Caruso ran for 109 yards and a touchdown in that game, and Gutowski hit receiver Tyler Amandos for a 73-yard score early on en route to a 35-7 blowout.
