Lady Highlanders Beat Nutley, Win Sectional Crown

Title is second in three years for West Morris Central girls basketball team.

For the second time in three years, the Lady Highlanders of West Morris Central have captured the North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 championship.

Guarding their home court Tuesday night, the girls basketball team tipped off against Nutley and held on for a nail biting 63-60 win, according to nj.com.

Central was led by Brielle Kelly with 27 points and nine rebounds. She was followed by Paige Burton and Ilissa Webb with 11 and 10 points, respectively, the box score showed.

Nutley star Blair Watson’s triple-double wasn’t enough to overcome the Lady Highlanders, despite pouring in 39 points, 10 rebounds and 11 blocks. She also added six assists.

Aside from a mid-fourth quarter tying layup by Nutley, Central led for most of the game. The girls will head to Ramapo to take on Northern Highlands in the Group 2 semifinals on Thursday at 7 p.m.
