Leaders of the Pack: Long Valley Track Team Wins League Championship

Young runners win league championship against seven other teams.

For the Long Valley Track team, an undefeated regular season was a sign of things to come.

Capping off a remarkable run, the team sprinted past its opponents this weekend to win the 2014 Lakeland League Championship Meet.

Forty-six members of the team competed in the annual title event, amassing 385.5 points to best seven other teams. A highlight of the day was Long Valley’s Luke Lusskin setting a new record at the meet with a 5:13 mile.

According to the coaching staff, here’s how the day’s events went:

The 9-10 girls team of Libby Masterson, Elize Fracciolla, Rosalie Olsen, Shannon Carratura, Maggie Macintyre and Natalia Agnolet dominated top spots in nearly all events for Division 2.

Natalia Agnolet and Libby Masterson started the day by nabbing top spots in the Long Jump, both with their best jumps of the season. Libby went on to PR in the 800m, 400m, and led the 4x100m Relay team in a first place win. Elize Fracciolla led the distance team in the 800m and Mile races, achieving personal bests in both, while Rosalie Olsen led the sprinters in the 100m, Relay and 200m. Rosalie began her day with a great morning at Shot Put and ended with a PR in her 200m race.

Maggie Macintyre, who was also on the first place Relay team, enjoyed a top spot in the 100m dash. Maggie rounded out her day with a personal best in the 200m. Shannon Carratura started her day early in the Shot Put pit and went on to place in the Mile and 400m races, contributing to the success of the 9-10 girls team.

The 9-10 boys were first with 76 points. Comprised of Erik Lusskin, Patrick Kelly, Kurt DeChiaro, Mason Gough, Scott Van Woert, Mathew Mancini,  Colin McLoughlin, David Brown, Connor Daly, Gerard Carratura.

The 11-12 Girls were second with 76 points. Chelsey Cochrane , Catherine Masterson, Julianna Agnolet, Caroline Isemann, Savannah Porrao, Molly SaboSarah Hanifin, Doris Migliaccio, Carly Delong.

The 11-12 boys were first with 82 points. Max Murata, Jacob Dolan, James Zeolla, Sebastian Hughes, Lars Olsen, Luke Doerr-Fedrickson, Jacob Dolan, Luke Lusskin, Ethan Stoute, Alex Rybarski.

The 13-15 girls second with 60 points. Sarah Bhargava, Sarah Daly,Crystal Robinson, Mackenzie Hurley, Caroline Hurley, Jessica Peerbolte, Ava Lusskin, Cora Gartleman.

The 13-15 boys finished with 26.5 points. Neil Mcintyr, Tyler Bishop, Luke Kelly, Ben Girardy, Hunter Booth, Chris Pollack, Mitch Butynes, Ian Dalgleish.
