Long Valley Raiders Football Uniforms, Name to Remain – For Now

Board won't hold vote for members before 2014 season begins.

After a month or so of the Long Valley Raiders Football Association working with program members on a potential change to the team’s name and colors, the youth organization will remain the same in 2014.

Because the time had come to recondition helmets and purchase new equipment, members of the board considered changing the team’s name and colors to align with the West Morris Central Wolfpack’s name and blue and gray motif.

On outcry from members past and present resulted in letters to the editor posted by Patch, ultimately ending in an impassioned public meeting in front of the board to keep the green and gold tradition going.

“Due to time constraints with helmet reconditioning and equipment needs we will not have enough time to gather the necessary information and complete the vote for the 2014 season,” a letter from the LVRFA board to members read.

The board had planned to put the measure to a vote before moving forward.

“The LVRFA board has discussed at length your questions and comments and has unanimously decided to take some extra time to gather additional information for the membership,” the letter read. “Our intent remains for the membership to be able to make a fully informed decision on this potential change.”

For the time being, the Long Valley Raiders name and green and gold colors will remain the same.
