'Pack Puts Madison on Ice With Shut-Out Win

Full team effort leads to 3-0 win.

The Wolfpack ice hockey team posted their second shut-out of the season defeating Madison 3-0 last Thursday at Mennen Arena.

Led by senior goalie Jamie de Iturrondo, who made 29 saves, the Pack took the opening face-off and mounted strong pressure in Madison’s zone. However, they wouldn’t hit pay dirt until late in the first period when sophomore forward Adam Richards, off a pretty feeder pass from freshman winger Connor Duhe, lifted the puck over the shoulder of Madison’s stalwart net minder.

Determined to get on the scoreboard, Madison tested the Pack’s defensive unit led by senior Dylan Podimsky, juniors Chris Harquail and Zach Fischer, and freshman Dan McGillicuddy, Griffen Moroney and Evan Wineburgh throughout the second period.

Partnering with de Iturrondo, they held firm in the Pack zone frustrating Madison’s offense. Meanwhile, WMC’s offense led by senior co-captain Nick Hamilton, senior Robert Marino, and junior Dan Devincentis, along with the Muscatella brothers (Ryan and Tanner), Richards, Duhe, and freshmen Ray Law and Brandon Reidinger continued to mount solid pressure in front of Madison’s net. The period ended as it started, however, with the Pack up by just one.

Finally, two minutes into the third period, senior co-captain Tanner Muscatella put the Pack up by two courtesy of a feeder pass from his sophomore brother, Ryan.  A minute and 42 seconds later, Law passed the puck to an open Richards, who tossed it into the net to solidify the Pack’s lead. The Pack had the opportunity late in the game to add to their score courtesy of a Madison penalty (one of just three for the night), but they were unable to capitalize.
