Rivalry Tilt Set for Wolfpack Football Playoff Opener

Central's title defense begins against Morristown on Friday.

After nine hard fought games, the West Morris Central Wolfpack football team is headed back to the playoffs in search of back-to-back state sectional championships.

Central amassed a 6-3 record, knocking off Vernon in the final week of the season by an impressive score of 34-7, according to nj.com.

The team enters the second season as the No. 2 seed in the NJSIAA North 2 Group 4 sectional bracket, and will face off against No. 7 seed Morristown on Friday at 7 p.m. at Wolfpack Stadium.

Central was handed one of its three losses by the Colonials in October during a defensive battle that saw Morristown squeak out a 3-0 win.

The Wolfpack beat Passaic Valley in the North 2, Group 4 sectional title game in 2012 to win its second championship in four seasons. If Central beats Morristown in the first round, it will host the winner of Colonia (No. 3) and Mendham (No. 6) on Nov. 22. The bracket's top seed is Phillipsburg.

This is head coach Kevin Hennelly's 17th season as the program's leader, and has four championships in six title game appearances.
