Rivals Mendham, West Morris Central to Meet in Football Semis

Wolfpack survive in overtime, while Minutemen roll to upset in first-round games.

Rivals West Morris Central and Mendham High School will clash in the state semifinals next weekend.

Second-seeded West Morris survived No. 7 Morristown 13-7 on Connor Thompson's 1-yard touchdown run in overtime Friday night in the first round of the North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 state tournament, according to NJ.com. Quarterback Collin Sokolowski threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Hennelly to give the Wolfpack the lead in the second quarter before the Colonials tied the score in the third, according to the report.

Sixth-seeded Mendham earned a semifinal berth by upsetting No. 3 Colonia 47-26 on the road Friday night. Joe Beneducci scored a pair of touchdowns and four players rushed for at least 50 yards for Mendham, which erupted after the score was tied at 14 in the second quarter, according to NJ.com.
