Photos: Ruff and Puff Girls Hit The Gridiron

Seniors grab one-score victory in annual all-female football game.

The annual Powder Puff Football game between the Junior and Senior class was held at on Monday. The game is usually played in the fall, but this year, uncooperative weather caused the game to be delayed till the spring. 

After winning in decisive fashion last year as juniors, the current seniors looked to finish their football career undefeated.

Ryan Hill started the festivities with an inspiring rendition of the national anthem and the game kicked off under an overcast sky. called the play by play continuously entertaining the crowd.

The Seniors struck on their first possession of the game, going the length of the field on four running plays. Quarterback Maggie English did a great job running the option offense. Megan Jurtschenko and Kelly Kavanaugh both ran for big gains with Jurtschenko taking it in for the touchdown.

The Junior class looked to answer back in the air, off the passing of Carly Smolensky. Sam Meola caught two passes on the drive and the Juniors drove down to the 2-yard line. But the Seniors, behind the work of Emily Delaney, Erin Gutkind, , Jessie Angle, Megan Monaco and Amy McQuaide, had a fantastic goal line stand keeping the juniors out of the end zone to preserve the lead as the half wound down.

In the second half, both teams struggles to get their offense going and the game ended with the Senior Class of 2012 grabbing the 6-0 victory and establishing themselves as a Powder Puff dynasty.
