Title Trophy in Sight for Central Girls Soccer Team

West Morris heads back to North 2, Group 3 championship round for third straight year.

What’s the saying – winning cures all?

The West Morris Central girls soccer team has been sick to its stomach since losing in a shootout to the Roxbury Gaels in the 2012 NJSIAA North 2, Group 3 sectional title game.

It’s taken them a year to get the bitter taste out of their mouth, but on Thursday the squad has a chance to make everything better.

Central will hit the pitch in the same title game they came so close to winning last year, this time against West Essex, according to nj.com.

The girls came into the tournament as the No. 3 seed, trouncing No. 14 Leonia by a score of 7-0 in the first round. The competition stiffened from there, with a 1-0 win over No. 11 Summit, followed by a 4-3 win over No. 2 Nutley on Monday afternoon, nj.com brackets showed.

Now, the showdown against No. 8 West Essex is set for 2 p.m. on Nov. 14. West Essex is riding a Cinderella run through the tournament with the momentum of an avalanche after knocking off No. 9 Colonia 3-0; then besting top-seeded Cranford in a shootout; and getting by No. 4 Livingston with a decisive 4-1 victory Monday afternoon.

Central heads into the contest with an 18-2-3 record against West Essex’s 7-10-4 record.
